I guess the connect is The Mahabharata.
The first pic is of Barbarika or Khatu Shyamji. He was the son of Ghatotkacha. He was a powerful warrior and wanted to join the weaker side in the war. To cut a long story short Lord Krishna intervened and asked for his head as a sacrifice to the battlefield. His head was placed on the top of a hill to see the war
The second pic is of Sanjay narrating the events of the war to Dhritarashtra.
The third pic is of Lord Krishna and Arjuna blowing their conches to signal the start of war.
The fourth pic is Lord Hanuman. He was present on the flag atop Arjuna's chariot to protect and stabilize it.
Incidentally, Arjuna's chariot was reduced to ashes as soon as Lord Krishna and Lord Hanuman stepped off the chariot at the end of the war. That was the extent of damage control provided by the two Gods. - Sunday, September 30, 2012 11:34:00 PM

All these people saw the Mahabharata, but were not "active" participants.
Barbarik, Sanjay, Krishna, Lord Hanuman.
