It all begins here.

In 1791, a Dublin theater owner named James Daly made a bet that he could introduce a word into the language within twenty-four hours. He then went out and hired a group of street urchins to write the word X, which was a nonsense word, on walls around the city of Dublin. Within a day, the word was common currency and had acquired a meaning(since no one knew what it meant, everyone thought it was some sort of test) and Daly had some extra cash in his pocket. However, there is no evidence to support the story, and the term was already in use before the alleged bet in 1791.

ID X.

Not that there's anything wrong with that

For what odd reason did this make the news apart from winning numerous Game of the Year awards and generally being a big hit. Google-able. So don't :)

What creatures supposedly lurk in the New York City sewer system?
This Urban Legend really flourished in the 1930s, and was written up in the 'New York Times' more than once. Supposedly tourists would buy baby _____X_____ in Florida, then flush them or dump then down sewer grates when they grew too big to manage. The _____X_____ would thrive in the sewers, living off rats and occasional sewer workers. They've grown huge, lost their pigmentation, and gone blind. They're still down there, living among enormous, white marijuana plants which sprouted from seeds flushed during drug raids.
Identify X?

Answer  :  Alligators
