This one goes out for the myth lovers (and non-lovers alike) :D

X is a legendary reptile reputed to be king of serpents and said to have the power to cause death with a single glance.
A mythical account of the existence of X goes like this-
According to the Naturalis Historia of Pliny the Elder, the X of Cyrene is a small snake, "being not more than twelve fingers in length," that is so venomous, it leaves a wide trail of deadly venom in its wake, and its gaze is likewise lethal.
Its weakness is in the odor of the weasel, which, according to Pliny, was thrown into the X's hole, and the hole was recognizable because all the surrounding shrubs and grass had been scorched by its presence.

X is also the name of a famous manga and anime.

Can you guess the name of "the king of serpents" ?

That squishy feeling

What are we talking about?
  • This species' reputation as a public nuisance is due not to any bite or sting (it is incapable of either), but to its slightly acidic body chemistry.
  • They are common to parts of Central America and the southeastern United States, especially along the Gulf Coast and belong to Plecia nearctica
  • Exist in enormous numbers near highways, they die in masses on automobile windshields, hoods, and radiator grills when the vehicles travel at high speeds. If left for more than an hour or two, the remains become extremely difficult to remove. Their body chemistry has a nearly neutral 6.5 pH but may become acidic at 4.25 pH if left on the car for a day.

Pic 2 is the Buttonwood tree, also known as the American Sycamore.

Pic 3 is Gururaj Deshpande , of Sycamore Networks.

raklodramA, anonymous and Raveesh Mayya cracked the question in parts, but no one got the complete thing.

And I want the complete funda.

Answer : The Tarantula and the Tarantella dance both get their name from the province of Taranto in Italy.
The dance was used as a means to cure people bitten by wolf-spiders by making them dance vigorously to get rid of their frenzied excitement, till they tired out.

More here.

Cracked by incognito. Navin Pai identified, but didnt give any fundas.

Nature One Shot

A Typical formation by which creature ?

Answer :

(picture from Wikipedia)

The Antlion. It makes such sand traps and places itself at the bottom. Unsuspecting insects  who walk onto the periphery of the trap fall down because of the loose sand  on the sides of the pit and become the antlion's meal.

Cracked by Chithananda. Good work !

And yes, Happy World Environment Day to all.
