The name is unique, a tad weird actually. But when there is a quiz at Jesus and Mary College, with good prizes on offer, do you really bother about the name? The reasons for going to a girl's college, besides the obvious, were stated articulately here. And when Manimugdha Sharma is conducting it, you can be certain it won't be a day wasted. Actually, he's become quite popular in the Delhi Quizzing Circuit, especially among the girl's colleges, and no one is complaining. :-)
The quiz started off with a short 20 questions prelims, 15 dry questions and 5 visuals, were of a reasonable standard. 6 teams qualified. The finals were quite good, consisting of 42 questions, plus a Short Visual Connect. There were a few repeats, quite a few visuals, one SVC, and some really good questions.
Overall, a good outing. A JMC team surprised everyone by qualifying and answering some really tough questions, and eventually coming third. A very good performance that earned them the respect of all teams, and the quizmaster as well.
Some gems from the quiz:
1.Connect: (Cracked by yours truly and sharat out of the blue)
2.Identify the person playing the violin or his most famous contribution.
3. Identify the pitcher (brilliant hit by the guys from DCE)
4. Connect: (Very quickly answered by Kritika)
Answers:
1. Flag of Hungary and Attila the Hun
2. Ram Singh Thakur, composer of INA's anthem - Kadam Kadam Badaye Ja
3. Fidel Castro
4. Troilus and Cressida
