Physician turned Business Mangate

With the intention of becoming a physician, Y joined the University of Texas at Austin. While studying there, he started an informal business putting together and selling upgrade kits for personal computers. Later, he started company in his dormitory, naming it X. And surprisingly, by the time he turned 19, X had notched up enough success to prompt him to dropout. X is popular now-a-days with its new name. In 1992, aged 27, he became the youngest CEO of a company ranked in Fortune magazine's list of the top 500 corporations. Id 'X' and 'Y'.

As this line in the question goes "X is popular now-a-days with its new name.",
what you have answered is actually the new name. What was X originally?
