The Shadys 2008

Presented by the Academy of Quizzers from NSIT
In association with you guys out there :)

View last year's Shadys here.

Yes we have a lot of the same categories but then every year Quizzing in Delhi brings new surprises, new "prizes" and the Academy has decided to expand its horizons. So more categories.
Some sarcastic,some genuine,some utterly cheeky.

And the Shadys go to…

Best Judge of the Year
Sushila Madam (pronounced as Su-see-laa) of Kalindi College for making it clear that quizzing is subjective after all. She then mysteriously resurfaced at Miranda College and gave Mayank and Ajay an earful on quizzing.
If you thought Quizzing had right and wrong answers, think again Sushila Madam has revolutionized quizzing.

Yudhishtra-Ashwatthama Moment of the Year
Teacher from KMC at their Quiz saying "We now have a presentation by Career Launcher during which we shall make out which teams have made it to the finals"

Technological Advancement of the Year
As uniformly followed by colleges cutting across. Buzzers have now been replaced by hands, screaming and your friends vouching for you. Quizzing indeed is going back in time.
I can already imagine tie-breakers being settled outside the room. That is also when you need Harish Alagappa on your side. I call dibs.

In other news, some buzzers have put burglar alarms to shame.

Best Announcer of the Year
Girl at SRCC - "The teams that have qualified - Angad Rawat and Some Dasgupta". Anang and Abhinav give each other a been-there done-that look.

Best Intimidating Comment of the Year
"Who/Where is the Nambissan?" thunders the girl at St. Stephen's Economics Quiz. The Nambissan meekly surrenders and receives the winning cheque.

We-missed-you-a-lot-Special Award of the Year [Joint awardees]

Debasish[DD] for teaching us that quizzers are groovy and can get the girls; bluffing is more important sometimes than knowing the right answer.
Jaideep for his Sheldon Cooper-esque comments and general aura that surrounds his genius - academic and otherwise.

You could say we are being biased but when the hell did we say PwC/KPMG does the audit for these awards :)

Rout of the Year
Roshan and Sharat. No. Sharat at the Sustainable Development Society - Pragati Quiz at SRCC which had Environment, Rural Development and Microfinance as the topics. Sum of scores of all other teams less than our "team".

Easiest Money Made of the Year
Roshan Shankar :) Refer to Rout of the Year

Most Eligible Quizzer-Bachelor of the Year
Udit "Hey Gorgeous" Anand. Ask the girls at JMC. Or the female quiz organisers he spends ample time talking to before the quizzes .

Best Quizmaster of the Year
Manoj Sir at IP College For Women.
He openly tells you there will be no transparency,he regrets and supposes whether your answer is wrong. He sounds like an Indian HAL-9000 and is a Cartman grown-up in India.
Chapter closed.
Manimugdha - don't be disappointed. Your time too may come ;)

Bluff of the Year
Debasish at the KMC Physics Society Quiz - running winner. This one hasn't been topped.

Question Of The Year
Pickle - Gunda Pickle. Enough Said.

Answer of The Year [In no order of ranking or preference]
Masaale - Catch, Everest, Baba and Goldie by CBS - Rishabh and Lohit.
Justin's "Shaktimaan's alter ego" by connecting VS Naipaul, BG Tilak, Panit Onkar Nath and Ravi Shastri.
Jaideep and the Mahaquizzer rout including the Stomping Grounds ;)

Best Room-mates of the Year
The bugs that Stephens and us got when we went to IIT Kanpur. Maybe Harish Alagappa's drunk Lucknawi gundas with women and size issues. You decide.

Langotiya Yaari Of The Year
Some awards are best kept secret ;)

Mark Bytheway Of The Year
Anang Rawat. Goodbye and best of luck - O last member of the Titans from your Pat Gibson.

Best Comment during a Quiz Of The Year
Mayank And Ajay at a Hansraj Quiz aided by a Delhi Times Paper. The comments were rather colourful and this is a Family Blog after all ;)

Wing Cdr. Mulky - Lifetime Achievement Award of the Year
Nitesh Bhasin.
Always encouraging, always with the poh-aah moments, at the wrong end of girls colleges to being the distinguished quizzer people know before releasing a book - he has seen it all.
There are 2 types of quizzers in the world - Those who know Bhasin and those who aren't Quizzers.

The Serious Ones
Best Rally of the Year
The guys from DCE with their rally at the Business Quiz in SRCC. It truly ain't over till the fat lady sinks. Good job guys.

Rookies of the Year
Kritika and Abhinav from NSIT with their great rallies at Hansraj. Nitin, Rushil and gang at the Cricket Quiz and others again from NSIT. Do let me know if I missed out any other rookies in our blind-paganesque-NSIT-worship.

Best First Quiz of The Year
Hansraj and the Illuminati. Good Quizzes. Money in hand. Good hosts. Free food. Free drinks.

The Last One
Still-Going-Strong-Again-Cry of the Year (3 years in a row)
Ban Ki Moon

Write to us if we've missed something.
