RIP Missile Man

RIP Dr.APJ Abdul Kalam

Here's a question in his memory:

APJ's alias while supervising preparations for Pokhran II was X, an in-joke that referred to the Y missile he developed, and the fact that X defended India from Ghauri (Ghauri : also the name of the Pakistani version of N.Korean Rodong missile) Here's the story:

"By noon, the winds still hadn't abated and the outside temperature was a searing 43 degrees Celsius. R. Chidambaram, Atomic Energy Commission chairman, dressed as Major General Natraj(Extra points for those who can tell why "Natraj"), removed his Gorkha hat to stop sweat from streaming down his face. On his left, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, scientific adviser to the defence minister and chief of the Defence Research and Development Organisation, also incognito, sat impassively. For Operation Shakti, as the nuclear tests were called, Kalam was known as X.

But the mane of silvery white hair that stuck out incongruously from his hat was a dead give away. All this was part of the extraordinary precaution the team had taken to prevent news of its frequent visits to the Pokhran range in Rajasthan from leaking out. With the range storming with Army personnel, it made sense for scientists and engineers to don uniforms so that they could move around without attracting attention"

Give
X
Y
and the reason for the name "Natraj"(optional)

You are right on X and Y

What I want to know is why did R.Chidambaram specifically choose Nataraj for his alias. So, you are not correct on that :)

But you do get 20 points :P

The dance of Shiva in Tillai, the traditional name for Chidambaram(Surname of the AEC Chairman), forms the motif for all the depictions of Shiva as Nataraja. Any close?
