Why you should , or should not go for an MBA institute hosted quiz

This post is being made specifically in reference to the quiz held at IP College for Women as a part of their college fest Shruti. The MBA institute this time was Career Launcher. But, it has been generally seen that you can replace the college and the MBA institute without much difference in the final results. See past reviews here, here and here.

Firstly, Why you shouldn't go for such a quiz:

1) The Rules : As we reached the venue, we were handed 2 pages of rules and regulations. Without elaborating on them , I produce them here for your viewing pleasure.

If you bothered to read through that, I am sure you have had enough laughs worth the fare spent on coming to the venue.

2) Bizarre, unexpected orders for which the reasons cannot be comprehended e.g. We were re-seated thrice in the same room because the Teacher in charge wanted "students to be evenly distributed". Also, 6 mikes for the finalists in a room small enough not to need a single one. Also , the quizmaster warned that he wanted all phones switched off, not even silent; and that if he found out that anyone's phone was not switched off, he would disqualify them.

3) Content : In an MBA quiz, the content is always factual. Work-outable questions, as per MBA institutes mean Maths or Data Interpretation questions. And sometimes, they add a generous dose of those too. This time however we were lucky enough to have straight, dry , factual questions for the prelims as well as the finals.

4) Non Transparency and Sheer Idiotism: The Answers to the prelims were not disclosed, despite requests from all members in the room. In fact, even after the finals, when the quiz was all finished, the answers were not shared.

To any query put to the CL representative , the response was "Let Sir Come". " Sir"- The Quizmaster had the responses " I am sorry but you are not allowed to cross question " and " I suppose this is the wrong answer ".

For an elimination tie breaker, instead of asking the teams to write down the answers, there were standard questions being asked direct and then passed. The Tie Breaker carried on as no teams were able to answer, till one team got an easy bait, caught it and sent the other two teams crashing out.

5) Buzzer Rounds- when they come with buzzers that shriek like banshees.

Add to all this, Teacher-in charges who think that quizzes are board exams and are disappointed when participants dont even get pass marks in the quiz.

I have been rather critical so far. Now here is why you should go for these quizzes.

1) If you waded through all the perils mentioned above, National Treasure awaits you! The Quiz in question had prizes of 5k, 3k and 2k - rather handsome amounts for college students. Another past quiz had a first prize of two 7 mega-pixel cameras !

2) If you are in a girls college , you may get free food. And if you are really lucky, you may get a good chick too !

3) Comic Relief provided by such quizzes will add the years to your life.

As they say in the Rules page, Wish You All the Best !

Quizzes hosted by MBA Coaching institutes suck... not necessarily those by MBA Institutes [You see, I'm a student at one such MBA Institute].
Quizzes at MBA Institutes may suck as well of course, but due to completely different reasons. Read Sharat's post on a quiz at Amity Business School and the sparkling debate that followed in the comments - http://nsit-qc.blogspot.com/2008/02/great-robbery-at-amity-school-of.html
How I wish the girls at IP would respond to this post.

@Anonymous
Good if this illuminati quiz was as good as Quizotic AND got you instantaneous cash money.
You see, it has been about a year and I'm still to receive my Quizotic money :)
