The Great Robbery at Amity School of Business

There are quizzes and there are Pornob quizzes.

And when one goes for the latter, one knows that one is playing Russian roulette.

Hence, imagine a quiz where the quiz conducted by Pornob seems like a high point of the day.

Yes, it is true. Today, on show, was the most unprofessionally organised quiz in recent history.

Why does this quiz stir up such a passionate diatribe from a generally mild-mannered person? Because I have reason to be extremely aggrieved. Here's why:

1) The quiz was scheduled for 9:30, an extremely impossible time considering the location of Amity(Noida) and the given weather conditions. However, when we reach the college, we are informed that the quiz has been delayed to 11:00 am, since the quizmaster's flight has been delayed.

2) There are 2 sets of prelims, one by students of the college and one by Pornob. The cumulative score was taken in which "Scores of first prelim are halved and Scores of the second prelim are doubled."

3) Only one team per college allowed. IMT Ghaziabad had 3 teams, and when they were told this shocking rule, that too after the prelims were over, they created a ruckus. Pornob favored the IMT guys and instead of 6, 7 teams were selected into the finals.

4) Collecting 500 rupees from each team as participation fee and then keeping only a single prize of Rs.2000. This is thievery at its worst, something that makes this quiz a worse experience than MLNC.(read the post on MLNC Quiz in the Quiz Review archives.)

5) Lack of communication which ensured that we kept sitting till the prize distribution and only then realised that there was no second prize.[We had come second.]

The target man this time is the liberated soul, who smelt like teen spirit. When we told him of our grievances, he first declared wrongly that we were tied for 2nd place and do not deserve a prize. When he found that wasnt all too right, he behaved high and mighty and declared that he was a BT Acumen finalist and that we shouldnt tell him what to do. Finally, he mumbled a flimsy apology.

I didnt see this guy's photo on the BT Acumen site, but even if we take his word for it, it only makes it even more shameful that a good quizzer should behave so.

About the Quiz: The quiz was a very "you-know-it-or-you-dont" quiz. However, some of the questions were genuinely good. Questions shall be posted in the next post.

Any positives? Pornob's lament about the lack of socially responsible quizzers was to some extent, correct. And then, there was food- bland and cold, though.

Moral of the Story: NEVER go to Amity School of Business for any quiz. It is too far and the buses are too crowded. If you reach there, you are likely to suffer the way we have suffered.

If you are an Amity Business School student and feel offended, please take efforts to prove that you are not an idiot dressed in smart pants and suits, (as was seen in the "Best Manager" contest after the quiz.)

That's it? Come on guys, things suck much more than that! My roommate demands that you know that the Amity School of Business is different from the Amity International Business School (the former being a BBA one and the latter an MBA one) and that INBUSH, the AIBS quiz will be outstanding.
Think about this, though. You guys felt like that after ONE day at the cursed place. I go there EVERYDAY!!!

I've been put into deep thinking as to why people think that everything has to be perfect in life. Things don't always work out the way they are planned. the quiz was postponed because of some some genuine reason, how does that make a college not worth going to. And for your knowledge the shirt and pants are for the smarter race of the society beyond your thinking. Our promise to you come next year and stand first the prize money, more than you can digest.

And for the blog please refer to the following points:-

Firstly a. the timings for all the management games was 9 a.m and it's over to us when we plan to keep the game.

b. at amity we are business managers so as to maintain that status we have to wear formal clothes. and secondly coming to a management fest in a casual attire and most importantly a casual attire and most importantly a casual attitude.

c. the prize money wasn't rs. 2000/- it was rs. 2000/- each. and for your info if a management fest is happening we tend to call the biggest person for the quiz and where do you think the money for that comes from? it's on to us who collect the money.

d. the guy's photo on BT Acumen site is not there but if you can read then please refer to the name mentioned on that site.

e. the idiots dressed in smart casuals (as you saw in best manager) were not from amity school of business and ya we do dress up smartly because we belong to a management college.

f. we had already mentioned that there would be only one team to win, and noting more to it.

g. for the solutions for the crowded busses please call 01143434343 easy cabs available through out the day so that people don't suffer.

conclusion:-
people who are offended by reading this blog i am really sorry. we at AMITY "NURTURE TALENT".

Hi Pavitra

Our main issue with the quiz was the non-transparency with respect to money. Other issues - time delay, transportation difficulties (if everyone could afford the cab fare, I doubt they'd be pissed about the 500 rupee buy-in), just added fuel to the flames.

As for the B T Acumen part - It just doesn't matter. Everyone here has won several quizzes, it proves nothing. I fact, as Sharat pointed out in the post, the fact that a seasoned quizzer would try to pull a fast one like this is all the more shocking.

Further, despite the fact that we were sitting in front of the stage for close to an hour before the quiz started, and were asked to write down our details TWICE, we were not informed of this policy. Had we known, we would have cut our losses and walked.

What's more, we were initially told that there was no second prize since there was a tie for second place. When we pointed out this was not so, and it was checked by the co-ordinator, we were told that there was no second prize since we had been thoroughly beaten by the winning team. When again, we pointed out that we had lost by as close a margin as was possible, given the scoring pattern, we were told not to argue, as this was how it always works. That they should know, being the finalists at BT Acumen.

Getting back to the main point- Sure, it's difficult to get a big name Quiz Master. Colleges deal with these issues all the time, when organising quiz fests. Some of them conduct quizzes themselves, some compromise and hire a lesser known Quiz Master. What they do not do however, is to put the burden of the quizmaster's salary on the participants. Think about it, was the experience you were offering so incredible, that teams would want to part with 500 bucks for it? How many of the teams do you think would have come, had you been upfront about the prizes?

From what I've heard from people who were unfortunate participants at the quiz - the criticism is justified and we have a right to voice our opinion. It might be difficult for a smarter race (dressed in formals, mind you!) to comprehend but airing one's opinion is NOT childish. This is an open forum and you're entitled to respond (as you have already) too.

anyway, the war of words above was really entertaining. now i wud just ask everybody on both sides to get on with their lives and stop bickering. auf wiedersehen !!!

Went for the same Quiz this year, hosted by pornooob. We were charged 300 per team, despite we being school students.
We were told the quiz would start at 10,started at 12:30, thanks to pornob's flight delay :P
Same 2 sets of sucky prelims. and again.. a russian whatever type of a quiz :P
Well would say Amity University is like, the place with which u would associate all loafers with :P
You pay money , you get in.. its the world only unversity with an acceptance rate of 100%.. Just like Empty vessels make the most noise,Amity university(Not school mind you) has the maximum amount of hype surrounding it :P
I would be ashamed of myself if I would ever have to go that college.
Who am I ?
I am from DPS noida, Going to Columbia University soon. This is if the Amity people dare challenge the legitimacy of my views.

I have never felt more ashamed than ever before.u guys messed up accept it and move on instead of whining.I have a sneaking suspicion that ur quiz blog(if it exists) must read this blog a lot.
and if u are such a gr8 quizzer and management student tell me the connect between
hemline theory leading lipstick indicator and hot waitress indicator e
I have said all this because ppl this blog has been an effing inspiration for me and these ppl by fighting here are bringing disrepute to my school which despite all its shortcomings is a gr8 place to be

an awesome argument !!!! makes you forget everything about the initial grievance. these amity people just have got nothing substancial to say, so they just get down to nsit bashing. btw, i can be counted as a neutral here coz i have been in amity, both of them and am currently in nsit. but really, "amity tortures talent", its true, but its so only becoz of the chauhans, who are interested in mothing else but minting money. if you take dem out of the equation, you have a fantabulous institution.
anyway, the war of words above was really entertaining. now i wud just ask everybody on both sides to get on with their lives and stop bickering. auf wiedersehen !!!

Sorry to start this off again,,but had to convey this..
