IMS Quiz 2008 :: IMS does a Pornob

Denying IIT Delhi marks for a right answer, Charanpreet Singh of IMS Quiz 2008 said that a sonic boom happens at MACH 2. Well it happens at MACH 1 , which is also called critical speed.

NASA student site about Sonic Boom

Sonic Boom

When a plane pushes through a shockwave it creates a sonic boom. The noise is the result of breaking through the air waves which form in front of a fast moving plane. The sonic boom sounds when the plane is going faster than 760 MPH.

760 MPH is the speed of sound

Anyway, Here is Brittanica about a sonic boom

Sonic Boom - Shock wave that is produced by an aircraft or other object flying at a speed equal to or exceeding the speed of sound and that is heard on the ground as a sound like a clap of thunder.

When an aircraft travels at subsonic speed, the pressure disturbances, or sounds, that it generates extend in all directions. Because this disturbance is transmitted earthward continuously…

I attended IMS Quotient 2007 , qualified for the mumbai city finals, didn't win and came back feeling that the quiz should be remaned IMS Cinema Quotient.

This year, again I qualified for the city finals, and came away feeling that it should be renamed IMS Cinema and Rock Band Quotient. Sheesh...how many questions on Hollywood, the Oscars, Rock music, rock bands, the Beatles..it was like the entire quiz was one big THEME round.

PS: forgive the rant.
