It May Seem Convoluted...

1. Perhaps the first woman ambassador mentioned in recorded history to be sent from one Head of State at the express invitation of another Head of State. _____A____ was sent to Sri Lanka to spread Buddhism and the lady in question took along with her a branch of the Bodhi Tree at Gaya. As a result(?) presently about three-fourths of the Sri Lankan population is Buddhist. Name this woman ambassador of royal origin.

2. Identify the Bollywood actor from this portrait of hers by her husband.

3.
Ingredients
* 4 tbsp Olive oil
* 2 medium Onions, quartered

4. Serve with chunky slices of sourdough.
That's just one of the ways to make this so-called poor farmer's dish. Which dish?
A slightly different method of preparation results in the following, probably more identifiable version
4. This is a long, boring and useless question.
___X____ is the oldest town in southwestern Germany, in the state of Baden-Württemberg and is located between the Black Forest and the Swabian Alb and is a small town with about 25,000 inhabitants. Like many old Roman sites, this one got the name 'Wil' (from villa). To distinguish this 'Wil' from others, it was called '____ Wil' from the red color of the roof tiles and bricks which later evolved into it's present name ____X____. During the times of the Roman Empire this was one of the small market towns Roman legions travelled through with their cattle. Most of the work in driving the cattle to and from the market had to be carried out by herding and guard dogs. In honor of the good qualities of the breed of dogs that came from _____X____ they were called _____Y_____. Give X and Y. If you know one, you'll know the other.

Both incorrect.

Not too many Bollywood actresses married painters (i think!) - He is a Russian guy.
The actress [the first lady of indian cinema(?)] is famous (apart from many other things) for something she did in 1933 with her then-husband [not the Russian painter].

5. I agree it's a either you know it or you don't type of question and Punk'd is a good try [for the Ashton Kutcher bit] but it hardly sounds like a place where Houdini would have passed away. :)
