Quiz at BVCOE - Prelims Review

The “Dr. Vikram Sarabhai Rotating Shield Quiz Competition” was held at Bharati Vidyapeeth’s College of Engineering (BVCOE) on 22^nd October, 2007. The quiz saw active participation from the various colleges that come under IEEE Delhi and IEEE Gold, namely IIT Delhi, Delhi College of Engineering (DCE), Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology (NSIT), Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Jamia Milia Islamia, BVCOE, University School of Information Technology (GGSIPU), Amity School of Engineering & Technology among many others. The total number of teams that took part were 32.

The quiz was organized by Nitesh Bhasin, BVCOE – 4^th year. The prelims consisted of 15 questions, comprising of connects (Paper, ISP, Barbeque dinner....the answer being Google’s April Fool Jokes), fill in the blanks (Kofi Annan, Jimmy Carter, Shirin Ebadi,Wangari Maathai, IAEA & Mohd. El Baradei,_______,______ the answer being Mohd. Yunus – Grameen Bank and Al Gore – IPCC, with the list comprising of Nobel Peace Prize Winners), direct questions (what comprises the duo of Thomas Sardorf and Navtej Singh Rehal? – Bombay Rockers; Carrie Underwood: Abhijeet Sawant::_____:Amit Sana, the connect being the winners and runner’s up of American and Indian Idol respectively, and the answer being Bo Bice), general trivia (if x<1>1 = 9.55 + 4.5x Hint: its Delhi-specific. Ans: Auto-rickshaw fare) , technical questions (The term coined by Tim O’ Reilly in 2004 that is redefining web standards...Web 2.0) along with picture-based questions(Eg. Name this well-known company whose original logo was this.

6 teams qualified for the final.

The event also consisted of an award for the best team name, where only non-qualifying teams were eligible. The prize would have gone to NSIT (Roshan and Udit), had they not qualified (“Nitesh Bhasin, We love you (utterly platonic)” ;-))
